Results of interwar Birkenhead elections can be found in:

Birkenhead features as chapter 4, pages 149-216 By-election results are not included; results for postponed polls are not included.
The latter point is exemplified by the entry for Gilbrook ward in 1937 which reads: "Election void - fire in ballot box". It would have been fascinating to know more about this, as well as the result of the election when it was re-run!
