The first placed candidate for each contested ward was elected for three years, the second placed candidate for two years, and the third placed candidate for one. In Hawksworth ward, the top two candidates tied so they would have to ballot for the period of two and three years in office. The same applied for the wards in which all candidates were unopposed.
