Wangford RDC - 1919More emphemera available through ebay. I had to check where Wangford was.... N.E. Suffolk. We have eight unopposed returns together with six sitting councillors deemed to be elected because there were no valid nominations. In the latter cases, under the terms of the Local Government Act 1894, section 56 of the Municipal Corporations Act 1882 applied: if at an ordinary election any vacancies were not filled by election, the required number of retiring councillors would, if willing, continue to hold office. The clarity with which the Returning Officer in Wangford sets out the situation in each parish, by the use of column 7, is most helpful.
